Saving One Life At A Time

Our Story ~

Arizona Shih Tzu and Small Breed Rescue is a 100% Volunteer Not for Profit 501(c)(3) organization that is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of Shih Tzu as well as small purebred and mixed breed dogs.

We rescue Shih Tzus as well as other small breeds such as Lhasa Apso, Poodles, Yorkies, Chihuahuas, Maltese, Bichon, Schnauzers, and Terriers. We rescue purebred as well as mixed breed dogs of all ages ... and have been know to take a bigger dog or two, a goat and a few cats and kittens that strangers have dropped off at our doorstep with no where else to go.

We believe that somewhere there is a home for every dog, but we also believe that we have a responsibility to place our dogs into homes that will best meet their needs both physically and emotionally. We look for people with both patient and loving hearts as well as an understanding of the furbaby mind. Abuse, neglect, irresponsible breeding, puppy mills, financial difficulties, changes in family circumstances, births, illness and death of guardians are all contributors to the large population of homeless dogs and some of the reasons we find so many dogs in shelters and rescue groups. Look at all those little faces on our web site and then ask yourself, why should I adopt a rescued dog?

Our adoptables with their bios can be found at : https://www.petfinder.com/shelters/AZ598.html

Applications are be submitted for review as well as a home check and of course a meet and greet with all of the family including the 4 legged ones that are living at the home. We are also committed to educating potential adopters about the importance of ethical, responsible and humane pet guardianship.

We have the unique ability to train 'littles' that are deemed untrainable. Several of our rescues were pulled from the euthanasia list on their last day at Maricopa Animal Control. They were then brought to our rescue, rehabilitated and are now presently enjoying their best lives.

We also provide grooming services and boarding.

Arizona Shih Tzu and Small Breed Rescue is a registered not for profit 501(c)(3) rescue.
We are a 100% foster, 100% volunteer based private rescue which means we do not have a brick and mortar building to visit our rescue kids. All of our rescues live with their foster family to provide a safe and quiet family life which in turn makes it easier for them to transition into their forever homes. They receive love and attention, learn how to co-habitate with other dogs and sometimes cats, receive house training, are provided medical care (if needed) and grooming.

Everything we are able to do is made possible by our volunteers. Volunteers who donate their time to foster, visit, clean, feed, play and/or walk our rescue "kids".

All of our rescues have an adoption fee.

This fee includes at a minimum, their Veterinarian Wellness check(s) while here at the rescue, a spay/neuter, all vaccinations including rabies and bordatella, de-worming, a pre-adoption professional groom and a microchip with lifetime membership.

They will also have a new collar and leash as well as a gift bag which includes among other things, a starter bag of the quality grain free kibble that he/she has been eating.

Please click the button below to learn more about our available rescues such as their bios and adoption fees on our Adopt-A-Pet page.

We also able to continue our mission solely because of those adoption fees as well as your kind and generous donations.

And for that we are grateful to you.
